Christmas in Melbourne

I’m going to tell you about some times when my mom, dad, my two brothers (Christian and Max), and I go to Melbourne to visit my dad’s side of the family.

But before I begin you need to know this. On Christmas my family goes to either San Diego (which is where my mom’s mom lives and my mom’s dad used to live) or Melbourne (which is where my dad’s parents, some friends, brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews live). What my family would do is we would alternate where we would go. For example we would go to San Diego then the next Christmas we would go to Melbourne and so on. But I’m going to tell you what Christmases are like in Melbourne.

So normally we would go to Melbourne a bit early. We would go on the plane from Singapore to Melbourne and fly to Melbourne. When we get to Melbourne we get our luggage and wait for my dad’s parents to pick us up (or we would get a restless car for our stay in Melbourne). Then when we get to the house usually I would get out of the car, say hi to my grandparents then run to their shed to stay with Lani for a bit (Lani is my grandparents outside cat). Lani is an adult gray tabby cat.

When it starts to get close to Christmas we start to decorate the house. My grandparents already have this Nativity Scene that’s already up when we get there. So we put up the Christmas tree and decorate it and outside in their backyard they have these trees that we decorate with tinsel.

On Christmas day we wake up have breakfast and all our usual things then when it almost time for the small Christmas barbecue type party thing with our cousins, uncles, and aunts we get ready, like we start cooking the food and I like to get a piece of paper and write “Merry Christmas” on it and tape it on the gate to the house so when everyone comes they see a sight that says “Merry Christmas” on it. After all the cousins eat we usually play games in the yard then, when the parents finish talking and eating we start the fun. We bring out water balloons. You know where this is going.

So we bring out the water balloons and fill them up with water then we have a big water balloon fight with everyone (I usually don’t participate though…. Actually I never remember participating except once.)

After that we open presents and everyone goes home… until New Years…
